A few mornings ago, a US TV programme ‘Today Show’ was airing a story about three US hikers in Iran. Reporter Andrea Mitchell said they were detained ‘when they wandered too close to the border between Iran and Kurdistan.’ On screen (left) was a map labelled Iran and Kurdistan.
Speaking at a press conference, CHP (Republican People’s Party) Deputy Director, Ensar Öğüt asked why no one is reacting to ‘labelling part of Turkey as Kurdistan.’ He said, ‘The TV station in question does not even say sorry, it does not say it made a mistake.’
Öğüt also said of the Turkish foreign minister Davutoğlu, ‘He makes no explanation. Foreign Minister, are you good for anything? Are you a Turk? Are you the foreign minister of Turkey?’
Well, Mr Öğüt, I agree. NBC did make a mistake. They didn’t draw the border in the right place. It should have been somewhat to the east to show the true border between Iran and Kurdistan!
Here’s the 44-second YouTube clip from the NBC TV interview:
