In returns so far it is clear that Erdoğan’s ruling party, the AKP, did not muster the needed votes to roust the DTP. This in spite of the distribution of household appliances in the region and the opening of TRT6. In fact, the AKP placed third in the Dersim (Tunceli) region where they were handing out the appliances, behind DTP and BĞSZ (Independent Republic Party/Kemalist).
The DTP won the municipalities of eight cities, with the following results at the time of this posting (96% of votes tallied):
Osman Baydemir 65.43% (AKP 31.57%)
Fadil Bedirhanoğlu 78.97% (AKP 15.93%)
Edibe Şahin 30.00% (BĞSZ 24.47%, AKP 21.63%)
Nejdet Atalay 59.67% (AKP 36.65%)
Mehmet Nuri Guneş 36.47% (AKP 32.33%)
Selim Sadak 49.43% (AKP 45.77%)
Ramazan Uysal 53.64% (AKP 45.41%)
Bekir Kaya 52.32% (AKP 40.81%)
The DTP did lose the small municipality of Mûş, which it had won in the 2007 general elections.
